The tricep muscle is located on the back side of the arm and works to extend or straighten the elbow joint. It is typically described as one muscle unit with three different heads, long, lateral and medial. In everyday activity we need this muscle to maintain the balancing act with the biceps muscle on the front side of the arm.
To perform this: Use a small towel in one hand and raise the arm above the head and bend the elbow so the arm goes behind the back. Reach behind the back with the opposite hand and grasp the free end of the towel. Pull the lower hand towards the floor to stretch the tricep. Hold this stretch for about 1 breath and repeat the process for 2 sets of 10.
*The goal here is to stretch the muscles and mobilize the shoulder and elbow joints. Over time this will help improve flexibility and mobility of the structures in the area. If you have pain while doing this modify it to be pain free or skip it.
